The Governor’s Woods Foundation is a private, not-for-profit philanthropic organization based in Philadelphia. Our interests and commitments are primarily focused in two areas: cultural development and progressive realism in government policy. In those areas that our interests and resources allow us, we generally combine financial support with active staff involvement.
The Governor's Woods was an area to the west of Broad Street, extending to the Schuylkill River that was formerly the private property of the William Penn family. It encompassed Southwest Square, known today as Rittenhouse Square, one of four Squares included in William Penn's original city plan for Philadelphia. The Rittenhouse Square area of Philadelphia is where The Governor's Woods Foundation is located.
